God is in the Middle

In the machinations of our reality, we are bombarded by a worlds opposites of right and wrong, dark and light, good or bad. The more extreme the drama of life the more interesting the story becomes. We see it today most prevalent in the news media who know how to manipulate and stretch the truth to extreme degrees. As an illustrator I came across these discrepancies all the time. It was difficult because I wanted to reflect the truth of an article but was asked to shift the image in a way that would be aligned with the publication's policies and agenda. They did not want to upset their readers or more importantly the advertisers.

Now with social media any event can be stretched to the farthest ends of the opinion spectrum. What is a fact and what is imaginary? One person's science is someone's conspiracy theory.

It has been my experience that the truth is generally somewhere in the middle of an issue. It lives not so much in the black and white but somewhere in the grey area. I surmise this is where God resides... neutral, in the center, as the observer. Not all the way to the right, nor all the way to the left, neither up nor down, instead firmly in between all these extremes, pulling them together like lines of thought in a tug of war battle that is going nowhere.

Perception is an act of creation, until you know better.

There is a practice which comes from Buddhism called observing in “Equanimity,”  where we experience life in a nonjudgemental state of mind. This does not mean you approve or disapprove of what is happening in any specific scenario, but reaffirms that nothing outside of you creates your reality. It is an inside job.

A neutral mindset can help keep our emotions calmer, but is there a way to reconcile the opposites in our life? Yes, that is with Love.

Love is actually the synthesis and synchronicity of all complementary opposites. Only when we see both sides in perfect balance at once, will we experience the profoundness of the saying ‘and the truth (of love) shall set you free’.

Love, is God in the middle.

Know Thyself

“To know thyself is the beginning of wisdom."

*****

Before Apollo the son of Zeus was venerated at the temple of Delphi, before Zeus sent two eagles east and west to find the navel of the world... Gaia was the mother of all. She was the heart and womb of creation.

In 1500 BC, the Temple of Delphi reigned atop the sacred mountain peak of Parnassus in ancient Greece. The primary religion at the time was devoted to the Earth Goddess, Gaia. Legends tell us that inside the inner temple was the Hestia or hearth where an eternal flame burned. Here priestesses would bathe and drink from the sacred springs, inhale the fumes of burning laurel leaves and sit in meditation to enter a visionary trance to ascertain the deeper mysteries of reality and prophesize future events.

Amongst the ruins of this wondrous Goddess-based civilization is an ancient Greek inscription prescribing its reader to “Know Thyself.” The Oracles at Delphi were part of that tribe.

We are all part of tribes. Your family, friends, school, society, business, and government are all tribes. They keep order within the group, they breed a commonality, and they induce a sense of security. There are also rules that dictate what is acceptable in these societies. You have felt these rules from the time you were born. First, they begin in your family with their customs and perceptions of the world. Then they are supported by your relatives, reflected in friends, school, society, and work. This support system has its advantages, especially during our elementary and middle schools years, but as we become teenagers our individuality blossoms (even if we feel timid or insecure), yearning to break out and push the boundaries of our potential. Stepping into our confidence and standing our ground can be daunting, especially if we have family, relatives, friends, or teachers pointing our paths in another direction.

Knowing who you are and what you stand for is a reflection of a deep soul imprint.

I created the Know Thyself workshop to be a transformational journey that reflects your unique purpose. It is a meta-physical journey. Meta (from the Greek meta- μετά- meaning "after" or "beyond") is a prefix meaning more comprehensive or transcending. Symbolically you will mirror the oracles of the past. The deep experiences of your life will offer clues to Knowing Thyself, and manifesting an empowered future.
