Winston Churchill, 1983, 10.5″x10.5″” Graphite, oil paint on illustration board. This portrait has a spontaneous application of paint that you can feel. It was one of my strongest pieces early on and still has a certain gravitas today.

Named the Greatest Briton of all time, Churchill is widely regarded as being one of the most influential people in British history. He was called the British Bulldog for his fierce determination. As Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, he is well known for his famous rallying cry, “We shall never surrender,” during World War II, which he was instrumental in helping win. He was also an officer in the British Army, a historian, a writer (won the Nobel Prize in Literature) and an artist.
