After graduating from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, California in 1982 I moved to New York City and began illustrating for America’s most prominent publishers of books, magazines, and newspapers. Two decades later I worked as a concept designer on feature CG animated and live action films such as The Ant Bully, The Golden Compass, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Escape From Planet Earth.

I consider myself a cross disciplinary artist and love to work in different mediums, from high touch to high tech, paint to pixels, photography to music, books to jewelry. It is a grand fusion of possibility.

For three decades I have been teaching, lecturing and conducting workshops at colleges, universities, art institutions around the country and abroad to share my professional experience and encourage the creation of art businesses. I founded the educational service, Artist As Brand to inspire and nurture art career sustainability.

Living in the Santa Monica Mountains (Woodland Hills, CA) with artist/botanical perfumer Roxana Villa of Roxana Illuminated Perfume keeps me in tune with my essential nature and is always a creative adventure.

“Greg Spalenka has talent: that’s more than obvious. He can draw, can paint, can design and hold his own with the best creatives working today and not break a sweat. But what sets him apart, that something that makes his art uniquely his own and causes it to stick in our memories, is his driving, consuming passion to create. Greg is constantly in competition with himself; the challenge he cheerfully accepts when he gets up each morning is to out-do what he has done before. It’s a good day when Greg artistically kicks Greg’s ass: he’s been doing it so consistently for so many years that it’s a wonder he has anything left to sit on.” -Arnie Fenner
