Jesse Jackson vs Dr. William Shockley - The Static of Eugenics

Eugenics, 14"x7," (graphite, acrylic, prismacolor pencils, on board). This was a social political piece for a class at Art Center in the 80's. Jesse Jackson was a respected American civil rights activist, Baptist minister, and U.S. Senator. Dr. William Shockley received a Nobel Prize in physics for his co-invention of the transistor but also an ardent eugenicist whose theories of black racial inferiority eventually made him an academic pariah. This a conceptual piece focusing on the debate of the issue between these two men.
