THE ART OF ILLUSTRATION- Two Classes

This is an artist bootcamp.

We will review the timeless principles of what makes great fine art, and illustration. Students will learn the various forms of storytelling and the importance of honing a strong personal vision. Approaching your art fearlessly is one of the goals of this class. High touch and high tech options for creating art will be reviewed. I will be demonstrating conceptual art making skills and art making techniques. In addition I may work collaboratively with the student's art digitally via Photoshop.

In addition there will be reviews of portfolios, a review of individual artistic goals along with insight on illustration careers.

LEARNING OUTCOME

A. Learn the basic history of the illustration world.

C. What is your personal vision? How does your skill set relate to a style?
What can you learn from the artists you love?

D. Learn the art of conceptual thinking and how this technique will help you create art you never imagined.

E. Know the importance of story points, and how dynamic composition keeps viewers engaged.

F. Embrace the power of taking risks with your images.

G. Find out which industries hire illustrators and how you can make a living from your talent.

DAY ONE

- Multi-media lecture on the basic history of illustration in its many
manifestations. We review the principles that make great art and how to use them to tell amazing stories. What is a personal vision and how does your skill set relate to a style? What can you learn from the artists you love?

- A quick review of portfolios.

- Learn the art of conceptual thinking and how this technique will help you create art you never imagined. 

-We work on sketches for a conceptual art piece.

DAY TWO

- Demonstration of my high touch - high tech approach to making images.

- Final review on sketches then students begin final art using traditional or digital tools of their choice. I may collaborate on artwork digitally via Photoshop.

-We assess individual artistic skill levels and goals along with insight on illustration careers. What opportunities are available for continued learning.

MATERIALS

Graphite sticks, pencils, kneaded eraser, stick/barrel eraser, sketchbook, acrylic and oil paint materials or iPad with Procreate or computer with Photoshop.

Please make certain you are committed to attending this class as the registration fee is NON-REFUNDABLE. However, if you cannot make the class you signed up for, you may use your registration for another class (of similar value) or sell/transfer the class to another person. We realize that unexpected issues may arise which prevent you from attending a class but remember that a space has been set aside for you. This policy is firm. You must notify us in writing (via email) of any changes.

If this class is canceled for any reason, we will make every effort to reschedule it and transfer your registration, otherwise your registration fee will be refunded.
